"Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji" is a 46-piece series published around 1831 to 1833 by Hokusai, who was aged 72 to 74 at that time or about 50 years since he began his ascetic travels. The prints cover views of "Fuji" from places which are now Tokyo, Kanagawa, Shizuoka and Yamanashi-they includes famous works such as "Red Fuji", "The Great Wave off Kanagawa"and is considered Hokusai`s defining work. Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji comprise of a total of 46 prints-36 that were done in indigo ink and 10 done in black ink. Each print was made with 4 to 5 blocks engraved on both sides, with the resulting 8 to 10 faces used to finish the layers.
